I am one of Opcon’s three original employees. It has been an incredible experience to watch Opcon grow and evolve over the past 4 years; we now have more than 20 employees. In a small company like Opcon, I wear many hats and I really enjoy being a part of whatever it takes to run the business. My day is never the same, and I love it! We are a dynamic and eclectic group, all genuinely united in the common goal of seeing Opcon succeed.
Chase earned a full-time position on the Opcon team after three summers as an intern receiving training in estimating, project management and general construction to complement his degree in construction management.
Opcon has been a great place to grow into a professional. The values that are evident in daily operations make Opcon feel like a family unit. Being a small business, interactions with the owner and coworkers are more personable, and we all really get to know each other. The atmosphere is very friendly, but demanding, which leads to high levels of performance and morale.
Working at Opcon has been a life-changing experience because it opened my eyes to how a business can feel like a home. I started here when the company was in its infancy. We were a tight-knit group working our tails off to build the business. At times, we struggled to figure out whether or not we were going to make it. I enjoyed this new professional experience of being an integral part of an exciting effort. We all relied on one another to work our hardest and be supportive. I started to view my colleagues as an extension of my family.
With the growth that we’ve experienced over the last five years (and believe me, it’s been exponential), there have been a lot of changes, but that feeling of family has stayed with me. It’s through our daily interactions that my beliefs are re-affirmed: Each of us at Opcon are working toward a common goal with shared values, and want to effect positive and influential change in both the projects we are working on and the people we are working with.
